Dear Marquez Charter Elementary Families,
I’m excited to begin the 2025–2026 school year as the new principal of Marquez Charter
Elementary, a school that holds a very special place in my heart. My journey in education began
here as a student teacher and continued for many years in the classroom. With 29 years of
experience, I bring deep expertise in instructional leadership and a passion for student learning
that inspires and supports all students. I earned National Board Certification in 2013 and have
served as a Targeted Student Population (TSP) Coordinator at both Roscomare Road and
Fairburn Avenue Elementary Schools, assistant principal at Dixie Canyon Community Charter,
and, most recently, principal of Westwood Charter Elementary.
Outside of school, I enjoy open water swimming and hiking in the Santa Monica Mountains. My
husband, Brian, is a published writer and youth swim coach in Santa Monica. We have two
daughters, Leah and Quincy, who are proud alumni of Marquez Charter, Revere Charter Middle
School, and Palisades Charter High School. Leah is beginning her career as a Deputy District
Attorney in Ventura County, and Quincy is launching her career in sports management after
earning a master’s degree from Georgetown University. We also share our home with three
spirited dogs.
As a hands-on and visible principal, you will often see me greeting families during drop-off and
pick-up, visiting classrooms to support instruction, and supervising during recess and lunch. I
value collaboration and look forward to working closely with you and your children to keep
Marquez a safe, supportive, and inspiring place to learn and grow.
This year, we will begin at the Nora Sterry Elementary campus as we prepare to return to
Marquez. LAUSD will soon hold community meetings to provide updates on the timeline. More
information will be shared as it becomes available. Thank you for your partnership and patience
during this transition.
The first day of the 2025–2026 school year is Thursday, August 14, 2025. School hours are
8:10 am - 2:50 pm on M/W/F and 8:10 am - 1:50 pm on T/Th. Parents can stay informed by
checking the school calendar at https://marquezres.lausd.org. If you have any questions, please
don’t hesitate to contact our office at 310-454-4019.
We also welcome and encourage parent volunteers! For the safety of all students and staff,
volunteers must have an approved LAUSD volunteer application on file each school year. You
can complete your application at https://volunteerapp.lausd.net. Remember to submit a current
TB test to Ms. Rubana in the main office or via email at [email protected].
I am excited for all that lies ahead and look forward to a safe, joyful, and productive school year
together. Thank you for entrusting us with your children—it is truly a privilege to serve this
extraordinary community.
With gratitude,
Lisa Timmerman
Principal
